There's a bar in Cambridge called the Cantab Lounge that has open mike nights every Monday. The scene is dominated by singer-songwriters and folk guitarists. In order to play something that I thought they might actually enjoy, I decided to throw together an arrangement of my favorite folk tune. I ended up liking it so much that I decided to polish it further and keep it in my repertoire.
lyrics
By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond
Where me and my true love were ever wont to gae
By the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
Chorus:
You’ll take the high road, and I'll take the low
And I’ll be in Scotland afore ye
But me and my true love will ne-er meet again
By the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
‘Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen
On the steep, steep sides of Ben Lomon'
Where deep in purple hue, the highland hills we view
And the moon comin’ out in the gloamin’.
Chorus
The wee birdies sing and the wild flowers spring
And in sunshine the waters are sleeping
But the broken heart, it kens nae second spring again
Tho’ the woeful may cease from their greetin'.
Chorus
